A founding member of New Silk Road Network (NSRN), Hövelmann Logistik has acquired 20 hectares of property on the Highway A2, in Irxlebe, Hohe Börde close to the city of Magdeburg, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
The first three warehouses in Irxleben are approx.13,500 sqm in size and were put into operation last year. These warehouses mostly hold textiles and small furniture. Additionally, the picking of small furniture is a B2C business setup. Up to 5,000 orders are processed here every day, which are then transported to the consumers by various parcel service providers.
Two new warehouses with a total size of 9,000 sqm became operational in January 2020. These warehouses are temperature controlled. Within six months these warehouses were functional as Hövelmann Logistik equipped them, hired and trained new staff, and implemented the latest warehouse control system. Frank Maslock, the branch manager of Hövelmann, reports that it was a challenge to setup up a world-class warehouse in such a short time but are proud of their success.
Approximately 70 different discounter-suppliers are processed in this warehouse. The transportation of the goods from the producers to the warehouse is mainly carried out by Hövelmann’s refrigerated vehicles. After storage, they are also responsible for putting together full loads according to the specifications provided by the customers and conducting transportation to the customer’s central warehouse on schedule. In total, around 1,500 pallets of food and non-food articles are moved per day.
Apart from these warehouses, Hövelmann has warehouse premises in Haldensleben, Saxony-Anhalt which has a storage space of 30,000sqm. They have also built around 60,000 sqm of warehouse and logistics space in the Magdeburg area in recent years. Wilhelm Hövelmann, the senior manager, states that this is not the end of their development projects as they are currently finalizing the construction of another warehouse in the Hohen Börde / Irxleben.
