Hamburg, Germany – Alexander Global Logistics (AGL), a founding member of the New Silk Road Network based in Germany, is delighted to announce the successful transportation of two massive slag carriers from the southern regions of Germany to the bustling Port of Hamburg in the north of Germany.
These carriers, each measuring 14.13 meters in length, 5.50 meters in width, and 4.50 meters in height, presented a remarkable challenge due to their substantial weight, tipping the scales at an impressive 97 tons.

The journey commenced with a meticulous phase of technical pre-planning, during which the AGL team left no stone unturned in identifying the most efficient and secure vehicle configuration for this demanding transport task. Simultaneously, they diligently worked on obtaining the necessary transport permits, ensuring that all regulatory requirements were met.
In close collaboration with their valued clients, the AGL team orchestrated a well-coordinated schedule that seamlessly aligned with the client's specific needs. At the client's facility, the team enlisted the support of two robust mobile cranes to ensure the secure and precise loading of the slag carriers.
Once the carriers were safely aboard, the road transport phase commenced, with the AGL team skilfully moving the carriers to the nearest inland port. Here, the utilization of a specialized crawler crane facilitated the transfer of these colossal carriers onto an inland vessel. Navigating the intricate inland waterways, they transported the carriers to their ultimate destination, the Port of Hamburg. Upon arrival, the AGL team demonstrated exceptional efficiency in unloading the carriers and securing their interim storage.

Notable highlights from this project include the only eight-week journey to secure the essential transport permit. The precise scheduling and operations also played a pivotal role, as mobile and crawler cranes were used with expert precision during the loading and unloading phases, resulting in a timely delivery at the Port of Hamburg, adhering precisely to the predetermined schedule. Furthermore, this operation showcased AGL’s resilience when confronted with environmental challenges, such as low water levels in Germany. They remain committed to providing reliable service year-round, ensuring that challenges are met with effective solutions.
