Intermax Logistics Solutions Ltd., New Silk Road Network’s member from China, recently completed a multimodal shipment from Japan to Kyrgyzstan via China, on behalf of the government of Kyrgyzstan.
20 pallets of construction material were loaded into a 20FT GP container and transported from Yokohama to Shanghai. The container was customs cleared and unloaded in the Shanghai Bonded Logistics Park, after which the empty container was returned to the port.
It was discovered that one bag of goods had been damaged, but it was immediately repaired therefore eliminating any further problems. From Shanghai, the cargo was then trucked to Xinjiang Logistics Park for customs purposes and re-loaded into a 20FT SOC, since only containers were allowed for cross-border transportation to Kyrgyzstan at that moment. After lashing and securing the cargo, the export customs clearance was finished at Kashgar Port and the container was sent to the border.
The goods entered Kyrgyzstan through the Torugart Pass, and then import customs clearance was done at Kant. Since it was a government project, it received tax exemption. Intermax completed the paperwork for tax exemption and customs clearance in Bishkek and then delivered the container safely to its final destination in Chychkan, Kyrgyzstan.
It took about 7 days for the shipment to travel from Yokohama to Shanghai and complete transit customs. From there on, it took about 6 days for the cargo to reach the border and another 5 days before the cargo arrived at its final destination. So in total, a transfer time of 18 – 20 days is needed from Japan to Kyrgyzstan by combined sea and road transport.
