New Silk Road Network’s (NSRN) member for Turkmenistan, At Abray / Turkmenline has always been active in supporting the logistical activities of NGO’s. Most recently, upon the occasion of the World Children’s Day on 20th Nov, the children in Afghanistan received a special delivery from the Turkmenline team – 6 truckloads of student kits donated by NGOs in effort to support Afghan civilians.

The cargo was picked up in the Netherlands and then transported to Baku, Azerbaijan. There, the kits were reloaded into Turkmenline’s own 45’ containers and taken directly to the final destination in Afghanistan without re-loading again at the Afghan border.

Such a process may seem easy in terms of handling, but many hurdles had to be overcome to ensure smooth transit. This included doing the tax exemptions and customs clearance before the cargo arrived at the Afghan border, navigating through difficult road conditions and crossing the Salang Tunnel in the Hindu Kush mountains in winter.

Eventually, on a breezy Monday morning in Kabul, the student kits were offloaded with zero damage and loss. While we can only imagine the excitement of the children receiving these gifts, we also applaud the efforts of Turkmenline and many other logistics companies out there doing their part in making this world a little bit better.

With this piece of news, we would also like to share with you the origin story of the World Children’s Day. First established in 1954 as the Universal Children’s Day and celebrated on 20 Nov each year, the World Children’s Day promotes international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improves children’s welfare. This year, the theme is “Inclusion, for every child”, and we think this delivery of student kits is a perfect exemplar.
